Section (q)(2), of the Hazwoper Standard requires employers to develop and implement a written Emergency Response Plan (ERP) to protect the health and safety of employees. Fixed facilities must develop an ERP when hazardous substances are used, stored, disposed of, placed or otherwise located at the facility which could result in an uncontrolled release or a potential release and have employees who are engaged in emergency response activities.

How to Use This Tool

Here’s a Model Emergency Response Plan for a fixed facility that’s designed to address employee health and safety protection during facility hazardous materials (HazMat) releases as required by Hazwoper. It’s a generic template that you need to adapt to your own circumstances. Make sure you communicate your plan to all employees prior to and during hazardous material(s) operations and incidents.
